As others mentioned uudecode and uuencode are still used in a lot of places. I thought at one time they were outside of sharutils and hten brought into the project later. Are they asking about the 'shar' part or the 'uucode' part or both?
I believe it's for both. Either way, we can deprecate only the whole package, not just a part. We can stop building the shar part, but if possible, the deprecation/retirement of the whole package is preferred.
