Dear Colleagues,

We are excited to announce the next session of the Converging on
Eruption Response with Equity - Emerging Researchers (CONVERSE ER) Fall
2025 Webinar Series. Our webinar series aims to provide a platform for
graduate students and early career scientists to share their research and
develop new skills relevant to the field of volcano science. The next
webinar will be presented by *Yuyu Li, from University of Illinois
Urbana-Champaign, USA*.

*Title: Stealthy Magma System Behavior at Veniaminof Volcano, Alaska*

*Time: September 23, 2025 at 4 pm GMT*

Register for this and upcoming webinars using the zoom registration link
below or by emailing us at converseemergingresearchers@xxxxxxxxx

*Bio and summary:* Yuyu is a PhD candidate at the University of Illinois
Urbana-Champaign. Her research focuses on understanding volcanic processes
and assessing the stability of magma storage systems and the eruption
potential of Aleutian volcanoes. Yuyuâ??s work involves geophysical data
analysis, numerical modeling using finite element methods (FEM), and
advanced data assimilation techniques such as the Ensemble Kalman Filter
(EnKF).

Veniaminof Volcano in Alaska erupts frequently yet often shows little to no
detectable seismic or deformation precursors, making forecasting especially
challenging. In this study, we apply finite element fluid-injection models
to a hypothetical closed magma system at Veniaminof and run a series of
numerical experiments to identify conditions that lead to stealthy
eruptions. Our results provide new insights into why some volcanoes erupt
without clear warning signals and highlight broader implications for
eruption forecasting in Alaska and worldwide.
