Her research focuses on understanding volcanic processes and assessing the stability of magma storage systems and the eruption potential of Aleutian volcanoes. Yuyuâ??s work involves geophysical data analysis, numerical modeling using finite element methods (FEM), and advanced data assimilation techniques such as the Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF). Veniaminof Volcano in Alaska erupts frequently yet often shows little to no detectable seismic or deformation precursors, making forecasting especially challenging. In this study, we apply finite element fluid-injection models to a hypothetical closed magma system at Veniaminof and run a series of numerical experiments to identify conditions that lead to stealthy eruptions.
