Fair enough, perhaps it was a bit over the top. And if I ruffled some feathers, I want to apologize for that. Just be careful is all, especially for those from normally colder regions. I still have too many more dumb questions to ask, and idiotic suggestions to bother my superiors with! 😉

That’s very reassuring to hear. I’ve never been there (only a quick stop in northern Spain), so I have no idea what to expect of the venue itself. All I knew was that as a Belgian who never experienced more than 30-ish, we consider anything close to 40 to be severe. Having recently experienced that and going to experience it again in Belgium tomorrow, I don’t think KMI is wrong for making that call. We’re far more used to -10 than we are to +40. Hence the (perhaps somewhat exaggerated) message.

That’s what I saw in Portugal as well yes. Especially water bottles, everyone had one on them when walking around the city during the afternoon.

> Also, in summer in Spain we have frequent “summer storms”, which tend to moderate the temperature.

Do they do much in the long run though? In Belgium they are generally the precursor to cooldowns, but every time I was in Portugal during summer, the heat would just return a few days later. Thunderstorms were largely dismissed for that reason. Even though I lived there for a few years now, I know very little about the Iberian climate.

> By the way, the secretariat told me that I will be handling the weather desk next to the registration, so I can take all the wishes and complains about the weather. If you know rain and weather dances or any other tricks that I can play with, you need to tell me; I need to learn them quickly!

That’s very reassuring, seems that I got the right person straight away. Now that’s efficiency. Looks like the event will be in capable hands.
