Yes, I was overscheduled, but I used the breaks and lunchtimes and receptions for productive discussions with others. Super useful.

The value of all being in the same place in person...

yes, fair enough point.
If they aren't using meetecho, then they are all bad in my opinion.

Doesn't have to be noisy.

That's a feature. Napkins really are a useful tool :-)

More than 5-6 people can't share talking time/token usefully.

That's why the hotels+conference center with a clear lounge/bar are a win.
The Marriot Marquis had a good foyer lounge, but it was still slightly "far"
for some uses. The side-meeting rooms in Bangkok were actually annoyingly difficult to find, or get to/from session rooms.

In my opinion, a purpose of the BarBOF is to be planning for a BOF/virtual-interim meeting.

Again, the fundamental problem is that the plenary week is overscheduled for most people, which leaves too little time/space for ad-hoc pre-BOF discussions.

I think that we should have a new category of virtual-interim-BOF meeting, and they should be allowed (nay: encouraged) to use Meetecho. And it shouldn't count against the "two-BOF" criteria.
(A few BOF-planning groups were told they couldn't use meetecho)

I find the A/V support in the side meetings to still be inadequate, and effectively remote people are always shutout. Given all of the above, my position is that either you do it at at BAR, or you do it as a virtual interim meeting. Anything in between is ineffective and exclusionary.
