Hello all,
My name is David Wang but I go by various aliases and what not. For the sole purpose of communicating with you all I will be known as tuxsavvy. I am glad to be interested in this Fedora project. 😄️
I presently use Arch Linux on my own desktops, but I do use Fedora Linux on laptops, as well as recommending Fedora Linux to novices in general. As such, I do write and maintain a few AUR package sources, a bit like Fedora copr but without the build system. My first copr project is, well, embarrassingly an update to an existing package, https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/tuxsavvy/star/ 😅️
I wasn't intending on replacing existing package maintainer's roles, but to hopefully hint at the viability of updating it to a new upstream repository, considering how the licenses I have found that it falls under, appears to be accepted by Fedora. Having said that, I have filed it as a bug report on RH's Bugzilla instead of generating the noise here.
Over time, I intend to be writing and maintaining new Fedora packages, hopefully not replacing existing ones like I did, but to offer alternatives if that is the case. This brings me to (lib)ebu which I do have it functioning on Arch Linux via AUR, https://aur.archlinux.org/pkgbase/libebu and that I personally believe this package could be useful for existing EB library users; https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/eb as it does bring some advantages over it with JIS X 4081 UTF-8 extensions, the ability to use libdeflate, as well as other things that the author of the forked project brings, http://green.ribbon.to/~ikazuhiro/dic/ebu.html (the information is in Japanese, please be advised).
Anyhow I don't intend to ramble on the specifics in an introductory e-mail, so I'll keep the rest for future topics. I look forward to working with you all, and to foster a better relationship.
Kind Regards,
David
