+1 on sddm with awesomewm; that's my current setup on F41 and what I intend to use until I decide to find something else...

You need to switch to another display manager, as GDM no longer
supports X11 sessions.
One option is SDDM:
$ sudo dnf install sddm
$ sudo systemctl enable --force sddm
$ sudo systemctl reboot
