In addition to the blog posts, as part of my planning for an upgrade, I check several places for potential issues and changes:
  1) https://docs.ceph.com/en/<name_of_release>/cephadm/upgrade/
  2) https://docs.ceph.com/en/latest/releases/<name_of_release>/
  3) https://tracker.ceph.com/
  4) this mailing list

I also test the upgrade and write an upgrade procedure that includes pre-upgrade steps, emergency procedures, and post-upgrade steps, which are important for cephadm as the ceph command and cephadm have to be upgraded separately plus any scripts need to be tested and updated as needed.

I upgraded 16.2.15 directly to 18.2.4 with cephadm using a staggered upgrade (available since 16.2.11) and the upgrade went fine. I specified a particular image using --image with the ceph orch upgrade start command.

Cheers,
Joel
