cp copied more than was dd'ed, so I interupted it.
Copying from the SD card will get you the entire size of the SD card.
As long as the first part matches the iso then it's good.
What kind of computer are you trying to boot on and how old? I've had
issues with older devices and USB. One in particular I had to burn a
DVD to install.
