More progress.
Doing that brings up some files and one directory.
There should be multiple directories.
If I try to look at the properties of that directory, it says "contents unreadable", and under that, "Unknown".
I tried opening 2 JPG files; they could not be opened.
I tried opening one text file; it could not be opened.

Is ddrescue and/or testdisk likely to help?

The stick has a LED in it.
It is currently flashing rapidly and continuously.
Is there something that I should do?
... or is that not a problem?

That depends on the stick.  Some flash all the time, some only when active.  That does sound like it's probably active.  Anything more in dmesg?

It is a "MICRO CENTER" stick, probably bought in a Microcenter store in Rockville, Maryland at least 10 years ago.

It does not always flash.
