I've mentioned this before, but it only took 13 seconds of being connected to the internet to watch a friend's PC get compromised in such a way that a wipe and reinstall was the only fix. His anti-virus software merely informed him that something had been done, didn't prevent it, and couldn't change a protected system file to fix it (even though the malware was able to). And it happened 3 times in a row because he wouldn't listen to me about firewalling. Pah! A pox on that so-called protective software!
