This solves the today problem and I don't have a problem with it. But in order
for the git shas to be useful, they are expanding over time to deal with
collisions at the lower number of digits. We will eventually have to either
make more changes or accept git shas are not useful in our uname. More
intrusive changes might take a few months to run past the Fedora board, should
we be thinking about those changes now and starting the process of getting it
approved or kick the can down the road until the next time this happens? I
feel like space for another 4 digits would suffice??
