Dear all,

The IAVCEI Commission on Tephra Hazard Modelling is looking to add new
members to its leadership team. Paul will be stepping down as a co-lead at
the IAVCEI General Assembly in Geneva in June-July 2025 and, whilst Thomas
and Alastair will be staying on, we are keen to increase the number of
co-leads so that the commission can better serve its members.

Since its creation in 2003, the IAVCEI Commission on Tephra Hazard
Modelling has worked on key issues in tephra hazard research and
applications. We bring together scientists with different specializations
(e.g., field-based physical volcanologists, petrologists, and modelers) to
expand the understanding of hazardous processes and improve tephra-related
models. The commission is open to anyone interested in tephra hazards who
would like to contribute to activities, working groups, or to simply stay
in the loop.

In the last couple of years, activities within the commission have involved
the initiation of a quarterly webinar series (Ashvances in Tephra Hazard
Modelling) and supporting the *Tephra: Chronology, Stratigraphy, Hazards, &
Climate *conference in Catania, Italy, in September 2024. We are also
convening sessions and organising workshops at the upcoming IAVCEI General
Assembly and have a proposal under consideration for a special publication
on Tephra Hazard Modelling with the Geological Society. We are keen to see
these activities continue and grow but, to do so, we need to grow our
leadership team.

If you would be interested in becoming a co-lead of the commission, please
send a succinct CV and a short statement (maximum 500 words) on why you
would like to join the commission leadership and what you feel you would
bring to one of us by *31 May 2025*. We'll then be in touch ahead of the
IAVCEI General Assembly with more information. You can also contact any of
us with any questions you may have.

Best wishes,

Thomas Aubry (thom.aubry@xxxxxxxxx)
Alastair Hodgetts (alastair.hodgetts@xxxxxxxxxxx)
Paul Jarvis (p.jarvis@xxxxxxxxxx)
