Mine was freezing too, because of firefox being so memory hungry and me
having just 8GB RAM. Now I installed additional RAM and have 20GB and it is
working like a charm. It even has about 1GB free when I open all
applications I usually use.

32bit firefox just  gets killed if grow too big for 32bit address space ;) 

Go 64bit like everyone else,  keep they saying ...nah.
