On laptops i have PClinuxOS with TDE.

On another i just let all the update come incl. pipewire etc. : no sound.

Does arts have a problem?
Does Devuan have pipewire and can have TDE?

I -want- sound.

I don't blame you. Sound helps.

That said, pipewire, and the plugins pipewire-alsa and pipewire-pulse are all I have installed and sound works fine (It's really desktop agnostic) This should also pull in libpipewire which is the library pipewire depends on.

You will also want pipewire-tools (if PClinuxOS splits that into a separate package) to provide command line players like pw-play, etc.. (not necessary for system sound)

Nowadays, sound is generally configured as a user-service if you are using a systemd based distro (I've run just about every distro out there EXCEPT PClinuxOS, so I can't speak to it's config directly)

A good reference for getting sound setup with pipewire is https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PipeWire The packages there named and split the way Arch does it, but the general setup and config info is the same. It's a good reference (as just about all Arch wiki pages are)

Good luck.
