If you want and have time perhaps add some comments there. A second opinion helps. :)

Some good observations on your part matching my observations. Perhaps that is a start. Might help if somebody who understands C++ browsed through the KDE katepart code to see what they changed.

As you mentioned, much of the time all is well but then -- boom. No explanation why the misread with obvious mimetypes.
