One of the things I’ve always enjoyed about viewing the gallery is getting a glimpse into other worlds. For example, Dan Mitchell’s Simply Red Mini Market image. It says No.4 so I imagine there’s others of these little kiosks. I say kiosks—maybe they’re full-blown stores, I don’t know. I love the optical illusion thing going on with the window stickers...I assume they’re stickers of some sort…how the soda bottles lead your eye right into this shop. What I know is I want to go in and get a refreshing beverage. Nicely done.I see photos of overgrowth and trees and I think to myself, “I could do that.” But when I do do it I’m never pleased, which is why I like Lew Schwartz’s BBI Road, Wellfleet so much. It’s a bit of a tangled mess but it’s interesting in the chaos.Herschel Mair has done something very wonderful and interesting here—something that looks to be a mix between cyanotype and solarization and I think it’s just terrific.Jim Snarski’s Working Girl photo of the bee gathering pollen from the plum blossoms is a wonderful harbinger of spring and reminds me that it takes all sorts of busyness to make this world go round.Roy H Miller’s Dogwood has Red Leaves makes me think how interesting things live above our heads and the trick is to remember to lift our chins and look up every now and again. I didn’t know dogwoods had red leaves. Maybe it’s a certain variety—I’ll be on the lookout.Bob McCulloch Pinks. I don’t know what these are but I wish I did as I’d like to plant some in my yard. I’m not sure what this image was taken with but there are certain tones of pink that are SO DIFFICULT to manage digitally and you’ve managed all those tones nicely.Ron Talbot, your Found in Falmouth Diggy Bigballs made me laugh out loud. I’m sure I’ve given my Google algorithm a shock by trying to figure out who Diggy Bigballs is. I did manage to locate a link to Simon Armitage, author of The Cornish Bank which I will now go explore more fully.Lea
