The options after LOGICAL <output_plugin > need to be in parentheses: CREATE_REPLICATION_SLOT test_slot_2 LOGICAL pgoutput ( SNAPSHOT 'nothing' ); In the PostgreSQL documentation, parentheses mean literal parentheses rather than being part of the grammar.
