It's just a giant pain. There was a debate in my series here about my having to make things work with 'make headers', but thanks to John we resolved it the sane way by using the tools/ stuff. I _believe_ Peter is just using this thread as an example of a recent case of people being asked to do this insanity (correct me if I'm wrong Peter) and it's unrelated to pidfs in general.
