- Rebase on the fastpath cleanups.
- Split patches to better isolate the functional changes.
- Massage and expand on a changelogs.
- Make a handful of (mostly) stylistic changes (shouldn't affect
functionality, key word "should").
Tested after applying both patch sets, it works well.
