Thanks. That worked. Clearly I mixed up some of the steps.

It was the default "peek at desktop" button that seemed to be new.

The remove feature may have been there but it didn't always work the
same way. I recall that editing the panel didn't take over the whole
screen as it now does. Moving things around seemed more intuitive than
using the huge black window that now opens.
