Hi all,
Registration for NomCom volunteers closed at the end of the day on 30 June. Thank you to everyone who volunteered, your willingness to participate is greatly appreciated.
In response to feedback regarding the timing of the seed sources posted on the IETF Announce and IETF Discussion mailing lists, I have adjusted the schedule so that all seed sources now come from after the contest period, which ends on 7 July.
Volunteer selection will follow the process outlined in RFC 8713 and will use the random selection method described in RFC 3797. The seed sources to be used are listed below:
* The seven numbers (6 plus bonus) from NZ Lotto (https://mylotto.co.nz/results/lotto) on Wednesday 2025-07-09.
* The six numbers from US Powerball (https://www.powerball.com/previous-results) on Wednesday 2025-07-09.
* The seven numbers from Croatian Lottery Loto 7 (https://www.lutrija.hr/hl/rezultati/loto-7) on Wednesday 2025-07-09.
* The seven numbers from Euro-Millions (https://www.euro-millions.com) on Tuesday 2025-07-08.
Thanks,

Hi Benno -
Three things.
1) The end of the challenge period is 8 July, not 7 July. One week, not
5.5 days or so. The earliest time to end the challenge would be 1336
GMT 8 July 2025 given the timestamp on your email. 0000 GMT 9 July would
make more sense. (and then see (2))
1) You didn't state the time zone of the end of challenge date nor the
time. 2359 Z-12 (Tuesday 8 july ) would be about noon 1200 GMT
(Wednesday) (e.g. after the minimum above accounting for ambiguities).
Euro Millions draws at 2045GMT (Tuesday) - well before the end of the
challenge period under that calculation. Even if you took US Alaska as
the furthest west zone, midnight Z-9 Tuesday would be about 9am GMT
Wednesday.
1.1) Hmm.. NZ Lotto: 2020 NZST (Wed)/0620 GMT (Wed) - probably before
the end of the challenge period, US Powerball 2300 ET (currently EDT
Wed) /0300 GMT (Thurs), Croatian Lotto 7 - 1800 GMT (Wed), Euro
Millions 2045 GMT (Tue)
2) You need to publish a final numbered list of volunteers BEFORE the
Euro Millions number is posted. Ideally, you'd do the preliminary now
and update it ( by adding challenge names at the end, and removing
challenge names without changing the current numbering. E.g. its the
fixed order of the list and the positions that's important, not the sort
order of the elements of the list.
Sorry - I didn't see the list on 1 July. As long as you don't change
the list contents when you add the numbers, we can still be in the
challenge period - just issue yet another set of seeds and get the times
right.
