It is a sad time, realy Fred was a big support for us in IETF, he made a big influence on all and his work still will.
We will always remember him, he added a big value into IETF.
I hope that IETF create a way to remind new generations of these very special members of IETF within our meeting/work.

I was honored to be be able to call Fred a friend and a co-author. Fred led the IETF while the Internet and the IETF were both experiencing explosive growth. He reliability showed up. Always. Wherever showing up meant. If you needed help with a spec, he showed up. If ISOC needed help with the fellows program, he showed up. If a newcomer needed help, he showed up. And he did so without ego or undue emotion.
I will miss him.

Dear all,
I just hear the sad news today
Fred, in his multiple roles at the IETF (including IETF chair) and as Cisco Fellow, was a role model for me and a personal mentor. His Internet contributions are obviously numerous.
For sure, he will be greatly missed.
