I am deeply saddened to hear of Fred’s passing. I first met Fred in the mid-1990s when he was IETF Chair, and he played a pivotal role at the start of my career. His wisdom, generosity, and eagerness to share his deep knowledge made him an invaluable mentor. Fred guided my early steps in the IETF, and I will always be grateful for his support and mentorship. It was an honor to know him as both a colleague and a friend.

His passing leaves a profound gap in the lives of all who had the privilege to work with him. He will be greatly missed.

My deepest condolences to his family and to all who were close to him.

Dear all,

I just hear the sad news today

Fred, in his multiple roles at the IETF (including IETF chair) and as Cisco Fellow, was a role model for me and a personal mentor.  His Internet contributions are obviously numerous.
For sure, he will be greatly missed.
