Fred was a dear friend. He tried hard to help where ever he could. He did his best. What more can one ask?

I was honored to be be able to call Fred a friend and a co-author. Fred led the IETF while the Internet and the IETF were both experiencing explosive growth. He reliability showed up. Always. Wherever showing up meant. If you needed help with a spec, he showed up. If ISOC needed help with the fellows program, he showed up. If a newcomer needed help, he showed up. And he did so without ego or undue emotion.
I will miss him.
