The IESG has received a request from the Domain Name System Operations WG

The IESG plans to make a decision in the next few weeks, and solicits final
comments on this action. Please send substantive comments to the

draft-ietf-dnsop-structured-dns-error-14 states that DNS filters are
deployed for a variety of reasons, e.g., endpoint security, parental
filtering, and filtering required by law enforcement. RFC 8914,
Section 4.17 specifies an extended DNS error code for censored. It
is fairly well-known in some parts of the world that DNS is where
some censorship occurs. The draft is silent about that "censored"
error code. I could not find a discussion about that in the mail
archives. Was there a discussion about the "censored" error code?
Section 4 of the draft specifies a "l" field. The field is described
as optional but RECOMMENDED to aid in localization. The field could
be either optional or recommended, not both.
