ISTM it's generally fine to use "Rob S" so long as there's a
way to track back to find a more real-world identity [...]
I don't see it that way. The physical blue sheet was useless from a legal perspective, but it was useful as a team-building exercise.
You'd have to pass it to the person next to you, if nothing else.
I often think terrible things about IETF matters, but I have a rule: I will not write anything I won't sign my name to. No aliases, no unsigned emails, etc.
It is depressing to see the unsigned mode as a default.
