I can say 100% that - I've been stashing for a long time; 2016 or before - the repo with the submodules was in the Apr 2021 - Apr 2022 window - I don't recall seeing this bug at that time, BUT, I may have just not stashed anything in a way that triggered it So it feels like a regression but I am not 100% certain.
