So there is nothing GCC specific when you run GCC.

It seems that you are using a parallel make to compile. Then by definition RAM
consumption increases.

By experience a too big -j option to make will slow down your build.

But my current open source project is an inference engine (GPL licensed, on
github), called RefPerSys. Contributors are welcome.
