Gmail is actually broken here. If email is sent to <you@gmail>, <list1>, <list2> then it merges the emails into one, and even worse, whether you get it in your inbox or it goes to list1 or list2 seems to be random (and not even consistent across a thread). This is just wrong MUA behaviour, but obviously Google being Google and them attempting to monopolise email, they don't care in the slightest.
