The purpose of generic-release (as I always understood it) was to
provide a _example_ on how to create your own release package for your
own forked distro. 

Some people I'm sure just used it completely, but it wasn't intended to
be some kind of complete solution, just more an example.

Perhaps we could just document in fedora-release (or elsewhere) how to
make your own and drop generic-release package?

I'm not sure this complexity is really worth it... but I'll comment on
the bug I guess.
