Currently the i686 tests don't pass. Disabling the tests is possible, but then we'd be shipping untested binaries. Fixing the tests is also possible, but a bunch of work (if you are interested in doing that work, please join the PR above and submit fixes.) Dropping it will mean changes in several other packages. See both the PR and the previous discussion link for a potential list of affected packages. Rich. PS #1 this is _not_ about dropping qemu-i386 or qemu-system-i386, that is, 32-bit x86 binary or full VM emulation running on other host arches such as x86_64. PS #2 apparently qemu running on i686 was able to emulate x86_64... probably very very slowly.
