Fatal Case of Splash Pad–Associated Naegleria fowleri Meningoencephalitis

In September 2023, CDC’s Free-Living and Intestinal Amebas Lab confirmed a case of primary amebic meningoencephalitis, an infection caused by Naegleria fowleri, in a child from Arkansas who had played at a splash pad 2-3 days prior to initial symptom onset.
