I just had a bad experience with plasma/xorg. I used plasma/wayland normally. When troubleshooting why cut/paste doesn't work with a remote AVD desktop, I tried logging in locally with plasma/xorg. Didn't fix my cut/paste problem, but after that I had strange problems:
1. kde login took MUCH longer than before
2. I have a panel at the screen bottom. When maximizing a window the window will respect the panel, not expanding over the region covered by the panel. But after trying plasma/xorg this was no longer true. Maximizing a window would cause part to hide under the panel. This was basically unusable for me. I tried changing settings in panel for visibility, etc. These changes had no effect at all. Finally I just mv'd ~/.config and started over. That almost worked except:
3. Starting with a new config, 1st I added virtual desktops. After configuring 6 virt desktops in the gui, I had 2 desktop pager widgets. I did not see any way to remove the redundant one. Finally I just manually edited ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc to remove the redundant taskmanager.
Those who don't understand recursion are doomed to repeat it
